After 21 year service he died of illness at Chatham, Kent on February 14th 1919. He was only 39 years old.
Given the year, it's very possible his illness was the influenza that was sweeping the world. I don't know, though.
He is buried with his wife Rosa, who passed in 1941 aged 56.
