During medieval times Burnham Sutton was merged with the neighbouring parish of Burnham Ulph. By the mid-18th century it is said that both churches were in need of repair and rebuilding. It was decided that St Ethelbert's would be demolished so that the materials could be used to restore All Saint's in what was Burnham Ulph.
It is possible that the church was built on the site of a much earlier church.
There is an information plaque at the site, though when I visited in 2024 it was quite overgrown with foliage.
